About Natureways Safaris
Natureways Safaris is the merger of Shearwater Canoeing Safaris and Natureways. Shearwater Canoeing Safaris pioneered canoeing on the Zambezi between Kariba and Kanyemba in 1982 and since this time, these canoe safaris and the Zambezi have remained the same, untouched by the world's developments. Natureways, also operating since the early 1980s, has focused on offering specialised canoe and walking trips for small groups of guests to get as close to game and birds as possible, undistrubed in their natural habitat within the World Heritage Site of Mana Pools National Park where the magnificent Zambezi River provides the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. As such, the new company can now offer their clients a far wider range of activities which incorporate the best there is to offer to all budgets and requirements.
Now owned by Robin Brown, James Varden and Ian Fearon, Natureways Safaris offers the hands on commitment of two owner/guides (Robin & James) together with perhaps the best team of professional river guides, with extensive knowledge and enthusiasm for flora, fauna and the incredible Zambezi River. Combined with this, we have the wonderful administration skills of Ian as well as their support teams in Harare, Kariba and Mana Pools.
Available are Explorer (semi participatory) and Odyssey (fully backed up) Canoe, Walking and Camping Safaris. The Explorer Safaris are available throughout the year and Odyssey Safaris only in the dry season due to accessibility restrictions in Mana Pools. May, June and July are excellent months for birding and have cooler temperatures ranging from 8 degrees at night to 22 degrees Celsius at midday. August through November are best for Game Viewing and Temperatures range from 14 degrees at night to 35 degrees celsuis at midday. October provides extremely good game viewing, particularly along the shoreline, but midday temperatures may reach well above 35 degrees celsius
